Oval Medical Technologies moves to new location in Cambridge, UK Research Park to support pharmaceutical partners’ advanced drug-delivery needs
Cambridge U.K. – 19 August 2019 Oval Medical Technologies Limited (Oval), a leader of patient-centric autoinjectors, has signalled a new stage in its growth with a move to a purpose-designed facility in Cambridge Research Park, U.K. The new facility provides dedicated GMP labs, enhanced device development, space to house the expanded team, and room for growth supporting pharmaceutical companies’ needs for injection platforms to deliver a wide range of subcutaneous and intramuscular drug formulations. Established in 2009, Oval has experienced continued growth since its December 2016 acquisition by global medical device contract manufacturer SMC Ltd. The integrated business provides a unique ‘one stop shop’, from device design to delivery of finished commercial product. SMC Ltd. announced today expanded drug delivery device capabilities with a dedicated pharmaceutical class 7 clean room in its Somerset, Wisconsin facility. “As we continue to experience growth in the Pharmaceutical market, we realized the need for additional clean room capabilities in our Somerset, WI location. The dedicated class 7 clean room will house a major customer, and allows room for future growth. We’re excited to offer these capabilities which are important for existing customers, and future pharmaceutical device programs.”said Chetan N. Patel, Chief Executive Officer, SMC Ltd.
SMC Ltd. recently hosted a manufacturing day for 64 sophomore students in partnership with the Somerset Wisconsin High School. Students spent the day with SMC employees in classrooms and touring various manufacturing areas for a first-hand look into the manufacturing processes of medical devices. During tours, students had the opportunity to interact with SMC employees who shared how each area in manufacturing comes together to complete a device. Tours also provided students with a glimpse into possible career opportunities. “We really tried to give the students a great understanding of all aspects of our business” said Eric Malmgren, Engineering Services Manager, SMC Ltd. “It’s important to us (SMC Ltd.) to expose students to skilled positons available in manufacturing beyond what they traditionally might have known.
